Perhaps Elida’s last episode or proper farewell at a later date…
Tropical Storm Elida spent several days looking like she was finally ready for her big promotion to hurricane status.
She flirted with the idea.
The National Hurricane Center flirted with the idea.
Even the satellite presentation teased us a few times.
But in the end…
🌬️ Dry air.
🌊 Cooler ocean temperatures.
💨 Increasing wind shear.
…had other plans.
Elida is now moving over cooler waters and is expected to continue weakening over the next couple of days before becoming a remnant low.
🌴 What does this mean for Los Cabos?
The good news is that Elida continues to move well offshore, and there are no coastal watches or warnings for Baja California Sur.
That doesn’t mean she’s leaving without making a little noise.
🌦️ A few passing showers remain possible (or pulling moisture from mainland thunderstorms)
🌊 Long-period swells from Elida will continue affecting Pacific-facing beaches, creating rough surf and dangerous rip currents through the next couple of days.
Remember, you don’t need a hurricane making landfall to have hazardous beach conditions. Storms hundreds of miles offshore can still send powerful waves toward our coastline.

While Elida is wrapping up her storyline, Tropical Depression Six-E has officially entered the scene.
Right now, he’s still looks a little rough around the edges.
The circulation is broad.
The inner core is still organizing.
But unlike Elida, Six-E has something Elida ran out of…
⏰ Time.
Forecasters expect Six-E to strengthen into Tropical Storm Fausto later today before likely becoming a hurricane early this week as it moves west-northwest over very warm water.
At this time, forecast models continue to keep the system well offshore.
👀 Meanwhile…
I’m also casually keeping an eye on the orange area shown in the National Hurricane Center’s 7-day outlook.
At this point, it’s simply an area being monitored for possible development later this week while moving generally west to west-northwest across the eastern Pacific.
If it eventually earns a name, it would become Genevieve (pronounced JEN-uh-veev in English).
Yes…that JEN. 😄
Years ago I used to share the stories behind the storm names, and I might have to dust that tradition off again this season.
For now, it’s simply another audition.
No contract has been signed yet.
🎭 Today’s plot twist?
One storm is taking its final bow.
Another is stepping into the spotlight.
And one more hopeful actor is waiting patiently outside the audition room.
