🎬 A New Cast Member Has Officially Joined the Season
The National Hurricane Center has officially begun advisories on Tropical Depression Seven-E, the newest tropical cyclone in the eastern Pacific.
If forecasts hold, Seven-E is expected to strengthen into Tropical Storm Genevieve later today or tonight, become the second hurricane of the eastern Pacific season by late this weekend, and potentially the first major hurricane of 2026 early next week.
At 9:00 AM CST (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Depression Seven-E was located about 605 miles (975 km) south of Zihuatanejo, Mexico, with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph (55 km/h). The depression is moving west-northwest at 12 mph (19 km/h) and is forecast to remain over the open Pacific.
Forecasters say the environment is becoming increasingly favorable for strengthening, with very warm sea surface temperatures near 30°C, light wind shear, and excellent upper-level conditions. Because of those factors, the National Hurricane Center expects a period of rapid intensification during the next several days.
The good news for Baja California Sur remains unchanged.

Hurricane Fausto strengthened slightly Friday morning, with maximum sustained winds increasing to 105 mph (165 km/h).
Fausto remains far west of Baja California Sur and is expected to gradually weaken over cooler water during the next several days as it continues toward the Central Pacific. Interests in Hawaii are being advised to monitor its progress, although forecasts indicate the hurricane should weaken before approaching the islands.
Swells generated by Fausto continue affecting west-facing beaches along the Baja California Peninsula and portions of Southern California, where dangerous surf and life-threatening rip currents remain possible.
