The 6th Annual Chili Cook-off Winner is P.E.T. Los Cabos!

By: Just Jenn

On February 18th, 2024 the 6th anual Chili Cook-off organized by Rob Zolezzi was hosted at the Cocina and Bar by the Cabo Bakery.

Every year, regardless of the venue, Zolezzi sells out the Chili Cook-offs and it’s always for a cause! #fundraiser

This year’s beneficiary was P.E.T. Los Cabos, “The goal of PET Los Cabos is to improve the overall welfare of our Community promoting responsible Pet ownership through comprehensive educational programs in our schools and neighborhoods, offering free and low cost spay/neuter campaigns that are accessible to all.”

Zolezzi posted this on social media a few days ago:

“A huge Thank you List to all the people who made this possible. Marcus from “Concina and Bar by Cabo Bakery” who hosted the event. Everyone who purchased a ticket, Our Chefs including 1st Place winner Pickleball Liz, 2nd Place Gregory Wulfers, 3rd Place Laurie Oylear. Our donors – Cabo Coffee, Charlie Chase, the Falcones, the Brekke’s, Laurie Saunders and Karin Hoehn. Angie Vertti, Ajinomoto Band, Margaret Partridge and crew, Medano Hotel, Debi Whitezell Bozanich, all of our Raffle donors and everyone else whom I might of forgotten. Also to Aida Trujillo and Evaristo Castro Rosas – my beautiful and amazing friends.”

In my opinion, the $200,00.00 pesos raised last Sunday makes P.E.T. Los Cabos, and the animals they help, the true winners. They’ve spent decades as volunteers in animal welfare ❤️ Aida Trujillo, thank you for all that you do!

Every ticket sold for this event included the chili tasting where chili was voted on, and included free parking, hot dogs, appetizers, soft drinks, water and drink specials.

Attendees were also treated to one of Cabo’s favorite local artists, Angie Vertti who performed with the Ajinomoto Band https://fb.watch/qoRZhxjpCj/ Angie just returned from Los Angeles just days before The Chili Cook-off after performing at the famous Viper Room.

Now I know the video below says it is unavailable since this amazing sampling of Angie Vertti Acoustic Demos contains copyrighted music.

The next time you are in Cabo San Lucas, I hope you have the chance to see the very talented Angi perform live. I know she frequently performs on Wednesdays at Sacho’s on the Cabo San Lucas marina.

I personally did not get to enjoy the tasty chili samples this year but I did happen to have my famous Texas-style homemade chili with a twist. I made the chili a few days before when it rained a little and opted to reheat it in the oven with homemade cornbread baked on top. Mmmmmmmm (If I’d attended the cook-off, I’d have chosen a different cover picture for this blog post).

Over the last several years, Zolezzi has opted to choose other very important 100% non-profit foundations and once again, he did not disappoint. Congratulations on another success, Rob!
