Yesterday, Tropical Depression Six-E was still auditioning for a bigger role while Tropical Storm Elida was slowly taking her final bow.
Well…
🎬 The casting director has made another decision.
Tropical Storm Fausto has officially joined the cast.
🌪️ Meet Fausto
Over the past 24 hours, Fausto has continued becoming better organized.
🌀 Thunderstorm activity has increased.
💨 Winds have strengthened.
🌊 Warm ocean temperatures, deep tropical moisture, and decreasing wind shear continue to provide a very favorable environment for additional strengthening.
The National Hurricane Center expects Fausto to become a hurricane later today, with additional strengthening possible over the next couple of days as it continues moving west-northwest over the open Pacific.
At this time, there are no coastal watches or warnings in effect, and forecast guidance continues to keep Fausto well offshore of Baja California Sur.
🌴 What does this mean for Los Cabos?
The forecast remains favorable for us.
🌦️ A few passing showers are still possible as tropical moisture lingers nearby.
🌊 Pacific-facing beaches may continue experiencing periods of larger surf and dangerous rip currents, even though the storm itself remains far offshore.
Remember… you don’t need a hurricane making landfall to create hazardous beach conditions. Long-period swells can travel hundreds of miles across the Pacific.
👀 Meanwhile…
I’m also casually keeping an eye on the orange area in the National Hurricane Center’s 7-day outlook.
Right now, it’s simply an area where a broad area of low pressure is expected to develop south of Mexico later this week.
The National Hurricane Center currently gives it:
🟡 0% chance of development during the next 48 hours.
🟠 60% chance of development during the next 7 days.
Nothing has been designated yet, so for now it’s simply another area worth watching—not worrying about.
🎭 And finally…
Adiós, Elida.
Elida spent several days keeping meteorologists guessing.
There were moments when she looked ready to become a hurricane…
…but dry air, cooler ocean temperatures, and increasing wind shear had other plans.
She never quite reached hurricane strength, but she certainly made this year’s Novela interesting.
Elida has now officially become post-tropical, and this marks her final appearance in our story.
🌊 Her farewell comes in the form of long-period swells and dangerous rip currents affecting portions of Southern California before she quietly fades into the Pacific.
Thanks for keeping us on our toes, Elida.
