Genevieve from MY Weather Station’s perspective – Updated Frequently

Hopefully, this will be the most boring thing you’ve read in the last decade. #NoNewsIsGoodNews

I’m at the tip of Baja. I experience things that people that live further North do not and vs versa. I experience things people in San Jose or the corridor do not or inland do not. We each experience totally different weather, for the most part, every day 365 days of the year, especially with storms. As time permits or I visually see a feel or change, I will post screenshots from my very own weather station! It should be noted though, that many times in the past I have experienced very strong gusts of wind that my weather station does not pick up as it considers them a glitch unless it is consistent. Each NEW update will be the FIRST (okay 3rd) thing you see, and I will most likely include graphics from the NHC. The one thing I will keep on top is the loop from the storm and the link to Beaufort Scale on Wind Speeds.

SAT GRAPHICS REMOVED SINCE THE STORM HAS PASSED.

Oh, as as a reminder, we are actually a radio station. Eclectic mix of music with rain in the title today … rainy day theme. 🤷‍♀️ Available from an app at the top of the FB page https://www.facebook.com/LiveCaboRadio/ and also the website https://livecaboradio.com as well as Alexa, Tune-In and Live365 apps

Sometime after 7 am August 20th 2020

Morning. Just a quick re-cap on what I’ve personally experienced weather-wise so far after being sideswiped by Hurricane Genevieve as a Cat 1

Yesterday we had gusts up to 65 miles per hour and total rain accumulation was 3.05 inches.

From midnight today to about 7’ish am again, the strongest gust recorded by me was 65 mph and total rain accumulation 2.67 inches.

SO … since yesterday, I’ll round it off, we have received 5.5 inches of rain.

I need to take care of a bit of mopping etc but just wanted to check-in and let you all know “we” are still here.

Please check with the NHC and your favorite weather app for additional info for what we might expect for the rest of the day.

Hope everyone is okay
xoxo

9:30’ish pm 19th of August 2020

The above images were taken few hours after the text below. Piggy packing off my cell connection. Night night if any of us can sleep. 😊

power on, power off. repeat repeat repeat. I can tell you we’ve got gusts over 50 mph and recorded 1.75 inches but I’m missing data due to power outages. Yes, we have back up but some of the most intense parts thus far today, were when we didn’t have power. I will give as full as a what we experienced report in this morning.

please keep checking your preferred weather website for rain and wind forecasts … we are supposedly getting a few more inches before midnight. 1-2 … but as I told another female friend earlier, trusting the weather forecasts is like believing a woman is actually fine, when she says, “I’m fine”. 😁😂😉 Stay safe and dry everyone. xoxo

3PM UPDATE for August the 18th 2020

Looks like Genevieve has downgraded to a CAT 1 !

Max Sustained Winds 90mph, 105 miles south of Cabo moving at a speed of 8mph with a NNW heading. We are still under a hurricane warning. Still expecting a lot more rain and winds …

PWS screenshots below to show what kind of gusts we’ve received at my place so far as well as rain accumulation. Be back in about 3 hours to update. 😊

12PM UPDATE for the 18th of August 2020

Category 3 Hurricane Genevieve still has maximum sustained winds of 115 mph and is still moving NNW at 9mp. Hurricane-force winds are still extending up to 35 miles from the center, and tropical-storm-force winds up to 140 miles from the eye. When taking the Beaufort Scales into consideration, we are already getting the TS winds thankfully at this time on the low end as far as intensity. This system should start to switch up the forward direction later towards the northwest.

9am Update for the 19th of August 2020

HURRICANE WARNING HAS BEEN ISSUED! Hurricane conditions are expected within the next 24 hours. Preps to protect life and property should be calmly and safely rushed to completion. Genevieve is currently 140 miles south of the tip of Baja with max sustained winds of 115 mph and a forward NNW movement of 9mph. Hurricane-force winds extend 35 miles from the center, and tropical-storm-force winds are being recorded up to 140 miles from the center of Genevieve.

I’d like to remind everyone to please refer to the National Hurricane Center for detailed information: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/#Genevieve

We are already hearing reports of power outages (unconfirmed) but I can attest that the lights are starting to flicker and this thing hasn’t truly started yet.

Oh, I am going to copy/past some VIP info directly from the NHC. I know, I know, I said I’d just let the PWS do the talking but this is really important. Your life matters ❤️ I am NOT freaking out … calm as can be I just want everyone to be safe.

6am August 19th 2020

UNDER HURRICANE WATCH. This means that hurricane conditions are possible within 24-36 hours and the officials may change this to a HURRICANE WARNING later today for some areas (probably us).

So reading the update from the PWS sounded more like my cat talking than a weather device last night. LOL Okay, here is the latest. Just facts no opinions. The hurricane is still a cat 3 with max sustained winds of 115mph. The NHC does not expect this system to weaken much today. Forward moved has slowed down to 9mph which means more rain anticipated than even last nights forecast as it will take longer to … do whatever it is going to do. The hurricane is 160 miles south of Cabo.

Okay, Just a few facts and the promised screenshot from my PWS’s current readings. Please consult the NHC and your preferred weather apps that you consider to be most accurate for rain. https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/?epac

Please do not forget previous warnings about AVOIDING the shore. Very high surf – life threatening. Do NOT play in puddles. Do NOT cross the street or attempt to drive if the water seems like a river.

Personal Weather Station Log, Entry date August 18th at 9’ish PM

There has been no significant change since the last screenshot, for which I am grateful. I am only rated to be on the roof to withstand regular hurricane-force winds (vs like, a cat 5) and I fear if a storm of strength ever came directly towards me, “she’d” sacrifice me for the greater good of recording wind speeds. “She” is mean. “She” is also too busy eating ice cream to care that the hurricane has shifted a bit towards the east and may be closer to land the originally forecasted … something about the homemade chocolate sauce? Humans are weird. At least, there is still some green water in the area which has weakened the hurricane but it has also slowed down from light speed to Nascar which might affect the amount of time this storm, spends near me. I am not scared, prepared yes, but … annoyed. This talk of smelling plankton recently? Pfffft. Anyways, I might be recording more rain than originally anticipated. I guess we will find out together. This is my current digital recordings along with what the NHC put out. On the bright side, the evening temperature has dropped from 86.5 to 84.7. The next log/diary entry will be in the morning, preferably after “someone” has had coffee. Please excuse the egocentric tone this evening, but I am just a mere weather station filling in for Jenn 🙃 (Have a good night everyone. xoxo)

…………………………………………………………….

6:15pm Awesome. The hurricane has downgraded to a Cat 3. It’s still a major hurricane and we are still under Tropical Storm Warning, but the forecast is still keeping the center of Genevieve OFFSHORE. I am anticipating thanks to “Weather Kitty” and some cloud coverage, some sprinkles unless we get a surprise micro-burst (they happen 🤷‍♀️) later this evening while we sleep. Weather Kitty is also telling me to expect 2 inches of rain tomorrow and maybe that much Thursday. Since all apps are not totally accurate, I will continue to rely on my personal weather station to tell me what is happening after it has happened. 😁 At this moment, my PWS doesn’t feel like making a “Dear Diary” entry as it’s about the same as it was around 4:30.

4:30’ish August 18th 2020. Below is the latest soon to change forecasts from the National Hurrican Center and current “Dear Diary” entry from my personal weather station, which thankfully is a very boring entry! 😁
